Product Description

What is CoCrMo Casting Alloy Bar?

CoCrMo Casting Alloy Bar

CoCrMo is a cobalt-based casting alloy developed for applications requiring a combination of strength, hardness, wear resistance and resistance to corrosion in demanding environments.

Chromium supports the formation of a protective surface oxide layer, while molybdenum contributes to strength, corrosion resistance and microstructural stability. Controlled carbon influences carbide formation, which can affect hardness, wear behavior, ductility and casting performance.

The alloy can be investment cast into complex near-net-shape components. Its final performance is strongly influenced by melting cleanliness, carbon control, casting parameters, grain and carbide structure, porosity, heat treatment, hot isostatic pressing, machining and surface finishing.

Features of CoCrMo Orthopedic Casting Alloy Factory

  • Exceptional Wear Resistance: Ideally suited for articulating surfaces in joint replacements, minimizing metal-on-polyethylene debris.

  • Ultra-Low Impurity Levels: VIM melting removes trace gas elements (O, N, H), preventing porosity in complex orthopedic castings.

  • Superior Corrosion Stability: High Chromium content (27-30%) forms a passive oxide layer that resists body fluid degradation.

  • Precision Grain Structure: Optimized chemical balance ensures a uniform microstructure, critical for post-cast mechanical reliability.

FAQ

FAQs of CoCrMo Master Alloy Bar Bulk

1.What is CoCrMo casting alloy?

CoCrMo is a cobalt-chromium-molybdenum alloy designed for casting components requiring strength, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and dimensional stability.

2.Why is CoCrMo used for orthopedic components?

It offers a useful combination of mechanical strength, hardness, wear resistance, corrosion resistance and polishability. These properties support selected hip, knee and shoulder component applications.

3.Is CoCrMo alloy automatically biocompatible?

No material should be described as universally biocompatible. Biological safety depends on alloy chemistry, manufacturing, surface condition, cleaning, sterilization, contact type, exposure duration and the completed device’s risk-based evaluation.

4.Is this CoCrMo product a finished orthopedic implant?

No. It is raw casting alloy or remelting feedstock used to manufacture orthopedic components. It is not supplied as a sterilized or approved finished implant.
