Product Description


Inconel 718 is one of the most widely used precipitation-hardened nickel-based superalloys, accounting for over 30% of global superalloy usage in high-performance applications. Developed specifically to withstand hydrogen-induced cracking and stress corrosion in aggressive hydrogen environments, DLX Inconel 718 round bars provide unmatched combination of high strength, fatigue resistance, and corrosion resistance for the rapidly growing hydrogen energy industry.
As global demand for green hydrogen storage and transportation surges, Type III and Type IV composite hydrogen tanks require liner materials or structural components that resist high-pressure gaseous hydrogen (up to 700-1000 bar) without embrittlement. Inconel 718 excels in these conditions, offering superior weldability, creep resistance, and low hydrogen permeability compared to stainless steels or other nickel alloys.

High nickel matrix minimizes hydrogen diffusion and trapping, preventing brittleness and cracking in high-pressure hydrogen environments.
Resists pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking in chloride-bearing or sour hydrogen environments.
Yield strength up to 517 MPa (annealed) and excellent fatigue resistance, maintaining properties from cryogenic to 980°C.
Forms a protective oxide layer, ideal for hydrogen production and reforming processes.
Easily welded without post-weld heat treatment, supporting complex vessel and pipeline fabrication.

Inconel 718 offers significantly better hydrogen embrittlement resistance than Inconel 718 due to its non-age-hardenable structure and higher molybdenum/niobium content, reducing susceptibility to intergranular cracking in high-pressure hydrogen.
Yes, its proven performance in high-pressure gaseous hydrogen environments (with minimal relative reduction in area loss) makes it ideal for modern hydrogen vessels and pipelines.
Solution annealing at 1093°C followed by rapid cooling is recommended to maximize corrosion and HE resistance. DLX Alloy can supply material in this optimized condition.
